“Lollipops turn into cigarettes. The innocent ones turn into sluts.
Homework goes in the trash. Mobile phones are being used in class.
Detention becomes suspension. Soda becomes vodka.
Bikes become cars. Kisses turn into sex.
Remember when getting high meant swinging on the playground?
When protection meant wearing a helmet?
When the worst things you could get from boys were cooties?
Dad’s shoulders were the highest place on earth and Mom was your hero?
Your worst enemies were your siblings. Race issues were about who ran the fastest.
War was only a board game. And the only drug you knew was cough medicine.
The most pain you felt was when you skinned your knees, and goodbyes only meant until tomorrow?
And we couldn’t wait to grow up?”

Hi!
Have you read Ishmael by Daniel Quinn?
growing up’s a bitch. sometimes peter pan’s neverneverland kinda sounds tempting. a singaporean nnl though.. probably will be full of non-aircon sbs buses with tiny white tickets, porcelain plates at kfc, thin deadly mrt cards, SBC, CDIS.. uh oh. nostalgia attack.
so sad yet so true…
lol.. that’s so sad but so true..
nice choice of image to accompany that piece. particularly like that line about the innocent ones straying the furthest.
“Goodbyes only meant until tomorrow.”

Author’s comments:
I think that this poem really explains what happens when you grow up. If you look back to first grade, and think of all the friends you had that you don’t anymore, all the things you didn’t know, and all the things you believed. Compare that to right now and you can see the change. It’s a very sad change, but it’s not all bad. If I hadn’t grown up, I would have never met alot of the friends I have now.
Wow! I love this!! Would you mind if I were to put it up in future on my blog ? Very nicely said.. a pity the author is anonymous! Credits to whoever who wrote it.
I love this. Gonna share it on my tumblr.
Thanks!
it is so true, it hurts
